Western Kentucky University (WKU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Internal Audit.
Reporting to the President and Board of Regents, the Director provide advice and counsel to the university administration within the University.
The successful candidate will provide institutional leadership towards a high standard of integrity, stay abreast of changes in federal and state regulations, perform audits and investigations related to financial, operational and system matters where fraud is suspected or in response to whistleblower complaints, manage the daily operations of the office. Other primary duties and responsibilities are:
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal audit processes and procedures in accordance with internal auditing standards.
- Develop and conduct the university's annual enterprise risk assessment in coordination with the President’s Cabinet.
- Prepare and present audit reports to the WKU Board of Regents Finance and Budget Committee.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive audit work plan.
- Follow up on all issued audit recommendations until fully implemented.
- Provide quarterly updates at each Board of Regents quarterly meeting.
- Provide support and resources to the campus community to promote fraud awareness.
- Maintain WKU’s Ethics & Compliance Hotline.
- Investigate allegations of fiscal misconduct and related policy violations.
- Develop and conduct departmental risk assessments and work with departments to implement appropriate internal process controls and other safeguards to protect the university's financial integrity.
- Adhere to strict standards for confidentiality and discretion to appropriately protect employees and the university.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field considered appropriate for the position
- Completion of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation within 3 years of employment; maintain Certification thereafter
- Seven years of experience in auditing, accounting or related field of work.
