About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Community College Partnerships & Adult Learner Initiatives, the Transfer Programs Coordinator will work closely within the UNC System Office and with colleagues across all 17 constituent institutions of the UNC System to promote transfer student and program success. This position will work with counterparts in the NC Community College System to facilitate administrative and programmatic success and collaborate with institutional staff and leadership across North Carolina to support successful transfer programs. The incumbent will also: convene transfer-focused discussions; serve as the lead staff member assigned to transfer initiatives; coordinate virtual transfer events; participate in the management and enhancement of the Reverse Transfer program; and serve as content expert on transfer activities within the UNC System Office and across the state. Much of this role will be focused on supporting UNC institutions in their transfer efforts and initiatives. There will be opportunities, however, to approach transfer policy and practice through an alternative, innovative lens. This position may be eligible for a hybrid or remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

 

About the UNC System Office
The UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. The UNC System is a treasured public institution dedicated to serving the people of North Carolina through world-class teaching, research, and community engagement. About the Team
The Academic Programs department works with the constituent institutions to shape the future direction of academic programs across the System. The vice president is responsible for university-wide academic planning, the assessment of program and institutional performance and development, and the implementation of competency-based approaches to curriculum development and assessment of student learning.

 

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Master's degree in a field related to higher education administration from a regionally accredited institution (must include all degree dates on resume/curriculum vitae) and a minimum of 4 years, post-master's degree professional experience working with students and/or transfer programs and administration, especially between community colleges and four-year institutions. The strongest candidates will have worked directly with transfer students in admissions, advising, and/or programmatic capacities at a four-year NC institution (public UNC institution preferred) and/or at a NC community college a minimum of six years (combined).

 

Required Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate high proficiency in the following areas:

  • Expert knowledge of the NC Community College Articulation Agreement, building/editing Baccalaureate Degree Plans (BDPs), various other articulation agreements meant to facilitate transfer student success, and experience guiding students using the same
  • Expert knowledge of and significant experience with the different departments and offices of community colleges and universities that are key to transfer student success
  • Excellent project management skills, to include managing projects with short deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening, interpersonal, and presentation skills • Ability to deal with ambiguity and handle multiple demands concurrently
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student and institutional data (qualitative and quantitative research experience desired)
  • Expertise in Microsoft office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint) and video conferencing applications (Zoom, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to operate independently or in teams in a collegial work environment and encourage and promote collaboration and cooperation among staff and institutional personnel
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in their work, interactions, and schedules

 

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Policy development and analysis related to transfer and reverse transfer, particularly in North Carolina public higher education
  • Experience working on programs and projects involving more than one institution, including engaging in state or system-level projects
  • Experience with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Colleague), learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle), and other related technologies (e.g., Degree Works, Starfish)
  • Developing and interpreting transfer articulation agreements
  • Strongest candidates will have experience advising transfer students in both the UNC System and the NC Community College System
  • Entrepreneurial approach to programs and projects, including proposing alternative solutions to long-standing problems and practices
