Accountant
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for an Accountant for the Financial Services Department. This is a full-time, permanent staff position.
Purpose of the Position: The primary purpose of the Payroll Manager position is to ensure that all university employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner; that the University remains in compliance with all payroll taxation requirements; and that the unit is staffed with well-trained individuals to ensure payments and compliance.
Salary: $76,406 - $84,895
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in accounting; or Associate’s degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Job Duties: The Payroll Manager is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting. Essential job duties of this position include the following: Supervision of 5 full time staff members; oversee zero tolerance payroll processing. Review and verification of the work of staff members, including running regular and adjustment payrolls. Regular analyses and general ledger reconciliations to ensure correct calculations and reporting. Remit payroll tax payments; preparation of quarterly and annual tax filings; oversee remittance of other payroll vendor payments. Remission and reconciliation of retirement payments and files. Preparation and review of payroll related financial statement reporting and footnotes. Manage outstanding issues through to solution, including overpayment scenarios, benefit deduction discrepancies, retirement reporting and remittances. Manage/lead payroll related projects. Other duties as assigned. The Payroll Manager will also be asked to implement or assist on special payroll related projects. This position will be relied upon to recommend process improvements and changes in operations to improve efficiency and accuracy in payroll.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college of university with a degree in accounting or business administration and four (4) years of accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
