Upper School Mathematics Teacher
The Benjamin School North Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Upper School Mathematics Teacher opening for Academic School Year 2019-2020 Teaching.
Responsibilities: At The Benjamin School, we believe that good teachers set high standards for their students and then do everything they can to help them achieve those standards. We are looking for teachers who will help our students (in and out of the classroom) become self-directed, independent learners with superior academic collegiate skills. The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate several styles of teaching and use varied approaches to the students and material. This person must have a desire to work with students in a challenging, college-preparatory environment and should possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a passion for mathematics, intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, the ability to work within a team, skills to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of learning, a commitment to ongoing professional development, an understanding of the ebbs and flows of independent school life, and, last but not least, a sense of humor. The person filling this position will need to teach some sections of advanced mathematics, including AP Stats and Precalculus; other courses will depend on the individual talents that the candidate brings to Benjamin.
General Professional Qualifications:
The most desirable candidates will have the following background or comparable experience:
- A bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years teaching high school mathematics
- Advanced mathematics degree preferred
- Experience with project-based teaching and collaborative learning
- Experience in integrating technology into the curriculum
- Ability to work effectively with parents as partners in each student's educational experience
- Ability to use a variety of communication/teaching styles and methods
- A proven willingness to experiment with different teaching strategies
- A history of continued growth and development as an educator
- A history of effective collaboration with colleagues
- Commitment to holding students to high and clearly articulated standards of performance
- Interest and experience in interacting with students outside of the classroom in co-curricular activities: sports, arts, social service, etc.
