Assistant Provost for Student Learning Assessment

 

DEPARTMENT: Office of the Provost

REPORTS TO: Provost

WORK SCHEDULE: Fully on-campus position

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Assistant Provost serves as a member of the Provost’s leadership team to support University academic and strategic priorities. This position is responsible for vision, strategic planning, and implementation of University-wide efforts to enhance and promote program excellence in all curricular and co-curricular initiatives via assessment and continual improvement. This position provides leadership, support, and training to ensure faculty and staff can carry out required assessment plans at the course, program, school, and campus level; collaborates with Institutional Research to identify and guide data collection processes; assists in the preparation of materials for Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation review; and fosters a culture of assessment on campus, including offering training sessions for faculty, staff, and administrators as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a relevant academic discipline
  • Four years' experience in higher education academic outcomes assessment or similar leadership experiences
  • Proficiency in data and artifact gathering and management using Microsoft Suite and other tools common to assessment in higher education (SPOL, Watermark, Weave, etc.)
  • A deep understanding of the value of assessment and continual improvement in student learning and educational innovation
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and project management skills
  • Ability to teach an occasional undergraduate or graduate course preferred

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1 full time direct report; 3 part-time direct reports.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of a culture of assessment and recommend initiatives to improve the efficacy of assessment at Point Park University. (20%)
  • Supervise and direct annual assessment cycles for University assessment, course-level assessment, student learning assessment, program review, periodic accreditation review, periodic program review, and regional accreditation. (20%)
  • Collaborate with schools, departments, and programs to ensure assessment results lead to actionable follow-up through existing University budgeting and resource channels and support data-driven decision making throughout these processes. (20%)
  • Review annual and cyclical assessment plans to support the development of meaningful assessment strategies with actionable outcomes. (7%)
  • Serve on relevant Faculty Assembly and Staff Assembly assessment committees; support the assessment efforts of deans, department chairs, academic program coordinators, and other key assessment leaders (such as the Core Director, Writing Program Director, Honors Director, and Faculty Leads for UNIV 101/FYS and COMM 101) (5%)
  • Collaborate with the Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education on accreditation data collection, analysis, and reporting. (5%)
  • Provide guidance to ensure that discipline-specific accreditation efforts (e.g., ABET, APA, IACBE) align to other school and program assessment practices. (5%)
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of Faculty Assessment Liaisons from across the campus. (5%)
  • Oversee the Academic Affairs budget, including budget request review, academic employment requests, and funds for external reviewers and part-time faculty participation in assessment projects. (3%)
  • Assist with the investigating and adjudicating faculty disciplinary matters. (5%)
  • Other relevant duties as assigned. (5%)
