Guest Services Associate
Job description
The Guest Services Associate works as part of a team within the Art Deco Welcome Center and Museum/Shop to create and maintain a welcoming, informative, inclusive, and friendly experience for all visitors. This role proactively interacts with visitors to provide an exceptional experience, accountability, and to uphold the values of the Miami Design Preservation League’s Visitor Center and Museum/Shop with integrity and professionalism. The GSA must be knowledgeable about Miami Beach and surrounding areas and able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with a wide range of people at all levels to ensure an exemplary guest experience.
Specific duties to be performed:
- Provide exceptional customer service in daily interactions with guests and maintain an environment that is welcoming, friendly, clean, and approachable
- Commit to an inclusive and respectful environment for visitors, volunteers, and fellow staff members
- Proactively engage guests by providing information about our city and surrounding areas. Inclusive of our core products including MDPL walks, Audio, Museum and Gift shop, as well as promoting local cultural venues, attractions, family-friendly activities, programs, and activities
- Demonstrate and explain the proper way to use our products and any accessories that come with them, answering any questions and addressing any concerns the customer might have
- Listen to customers to gain a thorough understanding of what they need and make tailored recommendations
- Examine sales floor when the opportunity presents itself to ensure merchandise is well-stocked, well-maintained and properly rotated
- Process, check, stock and inventory shipments, making sure deliveries are correct and of good quality
- Provide exemplary customer service throughout the shift, helping customers as needed and demonstrating our company culture
- Understand the Miami Design Preservation League origins and ongoing mission, proactively promote the MDPL Art Deco Museum and Gift Shop.
- Direct visitors into queues to enable access and manage crowd control
- Perform routine office task or duties as needed by supervisor
- Utilize Point of Sale system for store and ticket sales and to conduct transactions
- Become familiar with all brochures, programming, and distribution materials at the center to further enhance the guest experience
- Flexibility in work schedule includes weekend work
- Assist in opening and closing checklist procedures
- Answer and redirect incoming calls, collect and respond to voice mail messages as needed
- Open and close cash registers, perform tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, and balancing cash drawers, balance batch, vouchers and POS daily at close
- Responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice
- Perform general janitorial duties during and after shift, which consists of sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing and organizing various work areas
Qualifications and skills:
Required
- At least 18 years of age
- Able to comfortably stand for extended periods of time
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Fluent in English, minimum 2 yrs experience in customer service and related work (museum, attraction, retail, education)
- Strong written and oral communication and analytical skills, cash handling, excellent attention to detail, exceedingly well-organized, conflict resolution ability, and a professional and flexible manner
- Ability to read, understand and apply basic technical instructions and materials, general familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google platforms
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, along with a positive approach to service
Preferred
- Experience in the hospitality industry, and fluency in foreign language a plus
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds
Job Type: Full-Time AND Part-Time positions available
- This is a part-time or full-time position ( 17 to 37.5 hours per week, includes up to 5 days of 7.5 hours shift with 30-minute unpaid lunch). Workdays can vary, weekend availability is required. For applicant’s knowledge regarding scheduling: please note the busiest season is during the winter and Spring, so those applicants not planning travel during the season will be the best fit
