Special Note |
This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements. |
Position Purpose |
The Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing and overseeing Evergreen’s marketing and communication strategies and activities. The Associate Vice President (AVP) leads a staff of marketers, designers, and communications professionals in the creation of content advancing the college’s mission and goals for student recruitment, marketing, fundraising, reputation enhancement, public relations, and other objectives. This position directs planning, strategies, and activities to accomplish these goals, including Evergreen’s print and digital marketing, social media, website, reputation and branding, public relations outreach, and issues and emergency communication. The incumbent ensures that all marketing and communications efforts work together in harmony and messages are delivered consistently across all media to important audiences. The AVP works closely with subordinate staff to prioritize, manage, and track projects, ensure high-quality management of creative and communications staff, and tight alignment of all work toward Evergreen’s top goals. |
Nature and Scope |
Under the leadership and direction of the Vice President for College Relations, this position is a senior-level leader in marketing and communications. The AVP supervises the college’s Assistant Director of Integrated Marketing, Public Relations Manager, and Creative and Web Manager. Outside of the work unit, this position works closely with staff across the college at all levels to plan, execute, and measure cross-platform projects that carry consistent branding and messaging through all components, including print, web, advertising, social media, et al. The AVP holds decision-making authority over all aspects of Evergreen’s marketing and communications work, and functions as a hands-on partner in all of these efforts as needed. The incumbent often represents the Vice President (VP) and the interests of the division in cross-campus teams working in critical areas such as enrollment and curriculum improvement. |

Minimum Qualifications |
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, design, or related field. |

• Experience in a higher education setting. |
