Integrated Machining Technology Lab Technician

Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946 and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors.  Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.

Danville Community College is seeking applicants for the position of Integrated Machining Technology Lab Technician. This is a full-time twelve-month position with benefits and reports to the Director of Integrated Machining Technology. This position will require a driven individual to help prepare a machining lab for instruction. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to setting up fixtures and tooling, aiding instructor during lab activities, maintaining inventory. Duties may also include limited equipment maintenance on CNC mills, CNC lathes, EDMs, CNC grinders and equipment upkeep. This position may require travel and work on nights and weekends.

KSA’s/Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Precision Machining Technology Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Significant related occupational experience
  • The ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to the community college mission
  • Willingness to learn concepts, equipment and software such as learning management systems as it relates to the courses and programs to be taught
  • Skilled in problem-solving and working effectively with administration, faculty, staff and students
  • Ability and willingness to market the program to potential students of all ages and backgrounds
  • Commitment to teaching excellence with an enthusiasm for teaching
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to use technology to enhance instruction

Additional Considerations:
Experience or proficiency in the following:

  • Experience and knowledge of Skills USA
  • Experience with CNC programming, set-up and operation
  • Competency in basic shop safety and OSHA regulations
  • Experience with set-up and operation of manual mills and lathes
  • Experience with Fusion 360 software
