Adjunct Industrial Maintenance Instructor

Job Description   

Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946 and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.

 

The primary responsibilities for the Adjunct Industrial Maintenance Instructor include:

  • Teaching specific classes in the designated discipline.
  • Developing course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintaining records, assigning grades, and assessing student progress.
  • Adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations of DCC and the VCCS.
  • Maintaining current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
  • Ensuring students are aware of safety policies and monitor for correct procedures.
  • Maintaining professionalism within the classroom and coach students on their professionalism.
  • Managing all classroom activity including lecturing, student assistance, and lab instruction.
  • Answering students’ questions as they arise to ensure students’ understanding and completion of material for Industrial Maintenance.

 

Teaching assignments may include day and evening classes for program-placed and non-program-placed students.

KSA's/Required Qualifications         

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent in related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ current experience in the field is required.
  • Proven experience with Programmable Logic Controls.
  • Experience with using a variety of test equipment.
  • The ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn concepts, equipment and software such as learning management systems as it relates to the courses and programs to be taught.
  • Skilled in problem-solving and working effectively with administration, faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability and willingness to market the program to potential students of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Willingness to develop, build, and retain industry relationships.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence with an enthusiasm for teaching and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Ability to use technology to enhance instruction.

 

Additional Considerations                 

  • Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
  • OSHA certified.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S Training.
