The Position:

We are looking for a Civil/Structural Project Designer to join our team of professionals. The Project Designer will assist the Construction Project Manager in evaluating clients' needs, requirements, and expectations, analyzing construction feasibility and creating civil/architectural drawings, and coordinating the creation of civil, landscaping, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawing, assembling architectural scale models to provide a realistic visual sense of the proposed project, creating 3-dimensional computerized models using AutoCAD with Civil 3D (MicroStation or Revit experience) to illustrate the interior architecture, landscaping changes, and sunlight effects, participating in the preparation of Project Specifications Book.

In addition, he or she will assist in various aspects related to construction projects, from bidding to building. The Project Designer will expedite project timelines, manage inspections, and oversee logistics. He or she will work closely with the Construction Project Manager to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on schedule. The Project Designer will entertain clients with presentations, analyze their observations, and fine-tune all civil/architectural elements, ensuring that changes are reflected in all other construction or bidding sheets and project sheets, and assist the Construction Project Manager in developing, managing, and controlling medium/large unit budgets and all aspects of complex projects.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:                        

  1. Assists in the plan and specification analysis to determine clear and consistent interpretations of construction documents.
  2. Assists Construction Management with planning work schedules and projecting staffing needs.
  3. Assists in coordinating project personnel activities to ensure the project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed budget.
  4. Evaluates client's assessments to identify needs, requirements, budget constraints, and expectations.
  5. Analyzes all elements and determines the feasibility of achieving them based on budget and time constraints, building codes, and field conditions.
  6. Proposes realistic alternatives to those elements originally proposed but that are not feasible for construction.
  7. Discusses the newly proposed alternatives for final approval with clients.
  8. Creates architectural drawings that accurately reflect the intended objectives.
  9. Advises Construction Management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.; assists in resolving these problems as required.
  10. Coordinates with the Civil, Landscaping, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Engineers to ensure their respective construction drawings are fully compatible with the architectural drawings.
  11. Creates time-dependent 3-dimensional computerized models using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit to illustrate interior architecture, landscaping changes, and sunlight effects.
  12. Participates in the preparation of Project Specification Book, ensuring that all trades and other elements are covered and based on acceptable construction standards, current building codes, and appropriate use of materials.
  13. Assists in determining the technical scope of work, prepares RFIs, evaluates proposals, and selects consultants.
  14. Assists with monitoring Subcontractors, project scheduling, and cost control.
  15. Assists with researching and preparing field change requests to resolve design issues.
  16. Updates and accurately generates as-built documents.
  17. Fine-tunes all architectural elements and ensures changes are reflected in all other construction sheets.
  18. Participates in periodical construction meetings with client's representatives and General Contractor to evaluate construction activities, ensures the project is on schedule and budget, responds to any RFIs, evaluates, negotiates, and approves Contractor's CPR, and executes approved CO.
  19. May be assigned other tasks or projects.

Qualifications:

  1. BS degree in construction management, civil engineering, architectural design, or related field.
  2. 2+ years of experience in specific areas of civil and structural engineering and proven working experience in construction.
  3. Familiarity with construction management processes, means, and methods.
  4. Advanced knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.
  5. Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
  6. Familiarity with construction software packages.
  7. Excellent time and project management skills.

Job Type: Full-time                                                                                                            Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
