Reporter
The Anchorage Daily News and adn.com, Alaska’s most-read newspaper and news site, has an immediate opening for a reporter to cover local news, with an emphasis on government and accountability.
You need to be solid in the basics: accuracy, context and fairness; clear and engaging writing; ability to see stories that affect readers, know how to report them, and to see through spin and process. You like to dig, know your way around public records, aren’t afraid to ask questions and are naturally and deeply curious about how things work.
We’re a scrappy newsroom with a focus on audience - serving it, listening to it, growing it, retaining it. You need to understand online news and have a proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. We’re big enough to have a robust readership and wide, deep reach, but small enough for individuals to have immediate and significant impact.
We cover a place bursting with rich, complex, interesting news - and demanding readers who know what good journalism looks like. We’ve won two Pulitzer Prizes, just won an IRE award for investigative reporting and are currently part of the ProPublica Local Reporting Network. We’re independently owned and offer a competitive salary and benefits in a diverse, highly livable city of 300,000 with Alaska all its outdoor opportunities right out the door. We’ll relocate the right candidate. Email a resume, samples of your work and a brief note telling how you can help us to news-jobs@adn.com.
